TREE Fund Partners with Chicago Trees Initiative to Keep Chicago Green

Working in our own backyard to help spread the word about good tree care, the TREE Fund recently accepted an invitation to join the ranks of the Chicago Trees Initiative. The program is a city-wide collaboration of government agencies, community-based organizations, private citizens and nonprofit and for-profit organizations committed to improving the size, health, diversity and stewardship of Chicago’s urban forest.

The Chicago Trees Initiative (CTI) was officially launched on Arbor Day 2009 by Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley. Since then, more than 20 partner agencies from Chicago’s public and private sectors have pledged to work together to:

  • Improve tree maintenance and conservation
  • Educate and empower urban forest stewards
  • Plant more trees
  • Advocate for tree funding and protection.

TREE Fund Executive Director Janet Bornancin is a member of the CTI Board and serves on its Outreach Committee and Awareness Events Planning Task Force, helping to foster communication and collaboration among Chicago’s many “green” not-for-profit agencies. CTI has published a calendar of tree-related events in Chicago, which includes the deadlines for TREE Fund scholarships and grant applications as well as the 2010 Tour des Trees.
