Volunteer

One of the best ways to support the TREE Fund in its mission to advance knowledge in the field of arboriculture and urban forestry, is to volunteer.

TREE Fund volunteers are extremely valuable to our mission, especially since we are a not-for-profit organization with a very small paid staff and a board of trustees that are all-volunteer as well. Help us maximize the amount of money available for grants and scholarships, by volunteering for:

Committee Work

There are plenty of opportunities to do tasks that can be personally or professionally rewarding, good for the environment, and even FUN! You could help the Research Committee or Education/Scholarship Committee review and rank applications. Or help publicize TREE Fund accomplishments and special events by serving on the Communications Committee. The Arborist Safety SubCommittee and Tour des Trees SubCommitee include volunteers as well. Special Events

Special events to raise money are fun, but they take a great deal of people power to be successful. The TREE Fund Tour des Trees needs numerous volunteers to coordinate and publicize public education and tree planting events, set up snack breaks or shuttle cyclists and bike boxes. The Raise Your Hand for Research Gala Auction needs volunteers to be spotters, runners and cashiers, among many other tasks. Please contact the Fund Development Specialist at the TREE Fund for more information.

Board of Trustees

Your work on a special event or a board committee may even inspire you to volunteer to serve on the TREE Fund Board of Trustees. We are striving for a board with diverse expertise including legal, financial or accounting skills. Arboricultural experience is not required. Serving as a trustee is not only a great way to help the arboriculture industry, it can ultimately improve the health and sustainability of trees in communities around the world.

Volunteer Appreciation

Recognizing the great work of our many volunteers happens all year ‘round, but the coveted Ken Ottman Award (a specially-designed beer stein) is presented to the TREE Fund Volunteer of the Year during the annual ISA conference.  Previous award winners are:  2008 Jim Barborinas, 2009 John W. Goodfellow.
